After reading Erina's question, I decided to blog about my recent China trip with my parents. Throughout this journal I'll be honest and point out the good parts, bad parts, interesting parts and of course, the food part :P As I have over 800 pictures, I will only select the notable ones to display.

Supper on board our flight there. Fly Singapore Airlines! The best airline & our proud home product! A warm box of Tuna something. hehe.. Looks quite glam,

but I would have preferred for it to be stuffed with more tuna and softer bread hehe... You know me, my food must be fulfilling hehe. :P

This was taken in the morning, at 4am I think. so pretty right? awww.... btw it was the time the breakfast was served. kinda early to eat at 4am but I think itz fine, we are landing at 6am anyway.

After boarding the coach bus, our first stop to light food & loo.

2 ham dumplings & a bowl of soup. By the way, these dumplings are super soft and nice, much much softer than the ones we have here. Know why? the secret? I think it's the rice. Theirs is different from ours.

This is the general view of Hangzhou as you move around. The truth? I wasn't impressed at all. At all. or maybe I came expecting too much.

Our first ever lunch stop in China! hehe interesting food discoveries slowly coming to me.

First, the Rice & the Rice Bowl.
See what I was trying to show? The size of the bowl kinda gave me a shock la haha.... so tiny!! especially for Ai Lin! I was like huh? when I saw it. lolz... I was so hungry and the bowl is so small. Subsequently, every time I get such tiny rice bowls, I will eat at least 3 full bowls of rice. Reasonable right?
Another thing to note, I wanna mention that China rice is very nice and is to my taste. It is different from the Thai rice that we have in Singapore where it is hard and big. The rice in China is small, rounder and softer!! I like soft rice :) Interestingly, after all the hype about Japanese rice, you thought that it's all so unique being sticky and different, you come to china and realize that hey, their rice is like the jap rice. It's slightly sticky too and the shape is the same, just that it is without the vinegary glaze. From here you can see that japan indeed has its roots from china even though they like to believe otherwise. bahhh...

Some fish dish. Boney but tastes not bad. I loved having the gravy to pour on my rice.

So this is how every lunch & dinner looks like. One big table and lots of dishes. This is not complete yet. Oh, about their dishes - there are 2 very striking things to note. It is generally Very salty and oily. Much more than our local food and it's very obvious to ur tastebuds.

The streets

The empty road. There is no order in the traffic there by the way. Even if there is a red light or zebra crossing, the motorists won't take notice. You better use your eyes. It's damn scary to cross when the road is full.

The West Lake area, with the Lei Feng Pagoda in the background. Remember the Lei Feng Ta in Legends of Madam White Snake? Ya it's that one. cool rite? one interesting thing when u come to china, you get to see the stuff in the stories and in the poems that we read in sec school. More later.

Look at the liu shu on the right side. Know the kind that you always see in black & white chinese paintings? Tree with very long and flowy "branches" lol...

This is Gui Hua shu. Gui hua is the extra ingredient you find in the canned heaven & earth green tea sometimes. And this whole park gives off the gui hua fragrance. It was in season. Pretty nice, but personally I prefer some other flower smell. But if you like the smell of gui hua, this is for you.

Did I mention that the weather was damn hot? and i was in long sleeves thinking it'll be cool cuz itz autumn plus the travel agent said it would be cold.

We went into the electric-operated boat.They opted for electric, no petrol to cut down on pollution. Hangzhou was said to be the green city due to their anti-pollution efforts. Even all the scooters in the area are electric-operated. However, we found the area to be very foggy. Maybe it used to be super polluted and foggy that's why they have to put in the effort. Just a guess.
However, did I mention that the boat, being in the lake just like that with no fan or air-con inside, on a darn hot afternoon was a killer? Seriously, it was so darn hot I thought I was gonna get a fever. If you don't know how hot it was, it's hotter than sg. In that situation, give it a 35degrees. If the boat was air-conditioned, the experience would be a much enjoyable and pretty one.

It was said that the famous West Lake is now very commercialized. Look at the modern white boat there, just when u wanna enjoy the old scenery. The tourism people need to know what to do man =.= Haiz. It's a spoiler.

This is much better. Anyway, the emperor used to walk on that bridge. hee.

Sign for the pond below. Thing to note abt this sign is: look the fish character "yu". As you can see, there are only 3 dots instead of 4, which is the correct one. Before you think that it's "misspelled", nope it was purposefully drawn that way. It is because the emperor said that putting 4 dots would make it look like a fire, and putting the fish on fire means they'll die. So, only draw with 3 dots.

We went to the fake song dynasty place

Watched a performance that showed stuff gg on in Hangzhou as well as the legends. Not bad I would say, it has dance, acrobatics, good effects (water, fire, laser, sound, etc), archery, cannons, all indoors. they managed to transit a waterfall in the middle of the show, good rite? But what I thought they could improve on is the costumes. should invest more and make it look more real.

Part about the Madam White Snake legend. It's her and Xu Xian dancing in there.

Dinner

Breakfast the next day. I was trying to very positive about the breakfast buffet already but hmm, the truth is, it's very average or below average hee.... and my dad said the dumplings were 2/100 points. Oops.

Sorry for the loss of this guy's privacy, but I just wanted to bring u all the photo of how stuff are like there on a daily basis. normal guy sleeping in the bus, pretty normal.

Welcome to Dragon Well Village, West Lake. The place where my parents S$400, $2000 RMB on the Longjing Tea (Dragon well green tea). Insane right? This shows adults can also lose their minds. Got lots of story about this tea later.

Two of the grades of tea, the better one is on the right. And if I'm not wrong, there are 16 grades in total. First grade is usually sent directly to the govt and officials. Top few grades are not exported out. but ok la, this tea is good. Let me tell you more about it.

Firstly, this particular one sold here and grown on the surrounding plots of land are Non-acidic. Why? Because of the soil. If I'm not wrong, it's neutral and the colour is lighter. Anything just outside this place is all acidic because of the different soil. So hehe, be careful when you buy, although they can be of the same name, it is different. As for this piece of info, it is true because I drank the tea during the demo on empty & hungry stomach and nothing happened, no gastric. So not only is it good for people with gastric to drink, it is also good for people who want to diet. aha! lol...

Next, this tea has dieting properties. Take one cup every morning on empty stomach for a month and u'll lose 4kg. Lose 2kg for the subsequent month. We were told that jap girls frequently buy it for dieting purposes. Again, you probably wanna know if it works right? lol.. if it's really that good. Of course I didn't try this method, because I can't afford to lose 4kg right? else i will be skeleton and blown away by the wind. So, my parents and jesse tried. lolz...
The result? It's almost a month and they have already lost 4kg at least. Hmmm.. looks like it is working.

In additional, being a green tea, it is said to have the usual anti-oxidant properties etc so yea i'll leave that to you. Oh, one impt note! Deng Xiaoping drinks this tea everyday, and even though he was a heavy smoker and heavy drinker, he was still healthy and lived to a ripe old age. Ahh.. now this tea indeed sounds magical. Ok la not bad it has been working and when you drink it, you know it's good stuff too. (unlike the green teas we drink at sakae or sold at ntuc) You can even eat the leaves like that! due to the way it is processed. Other teas like oolong or puer can't be eaten directly by the way, take heed.

Last proof of its quality- this tea is so precious and treasured that when I wanted to give 2 tiny bottles of it away to people, my mum scold and nag like there was no tomorrow. For Days I had to be Consistently scolded and nagged at and sighed at, etc. In the end I bought the 2 bottles of tea from them but still with the scolding and conditions- have to be given to ppl who appreciate tea and will drink it. wah lao, really...cannot stand it. I bet if anyone tries to steal it, the thief is gonna get caught by them and skinned alive.

We went to the Indulge Restaurant @ the Cathay again. It was our second time there. I must say, the food is really great & they have many award-winning dishes. Must go there to try those dishes!! *Recommended*

Potato Wedges. This one tastes Very Good. This is why I haven't been eating potato wedges at other places and this is why I am eating this one here. It is like finding your prince charming. Know that there is this kinda good guy out there w/o meeting him yet, and that is what ure waiting for. Beats all the other potato wedges at western eateries plates down!

The full meal, with the rice in a very cute bowl and herbal soup too. Look at the cute tofu sitting in the glass cup. I love the way they combine the food!

This is how you cook Medium Well Beef. no blood yet tender. not like most out there who cook it wrongly, all bloody and stuff. But I feel they can use a better grade of beef and charge more hehe. Cause their prices are too reasonable for its quality already. It's so good they should charge higher prices!

Dessert

Coconut Ice-cream with Pulut Hitam

All in all, the food here is more than good. Prices are way too reasonable for its quality really, they can really charge more for the good food. Must go and try the award-winning dishes!! We already tried the Chrysanthemum Dory and Fusili the first time! FANTASTIC too! Will go back again soon!

Chicken with Salad dressing - chicken is very tender & the salad dressing gives an intense flavour.

Baby Kai Lan in Oyster Sauce. Their veg is soft yet fresh & green, not hard. Wonder how they do that.

E-fu noodles. They taste very good and alive, meaning there is a kick to it.

I went out for dinner with Chern, Chong & Ade yesterday.

Discovered that Old Airport Road is a food paradise. There were so many good stalls & big names that I was swearing as I was walking down the row. Unbelievable. Anyways, I can't have enough of the food & I will be back for more! Wanna try the Nam Sing Hokkien Mee & Mattar Road Crabs again!

Original Glazed. But after trying it under the same conditions as Krispy Kremes, AL's verdict is: Krispy Kremes is definitely better. KK's dough is much fuller and tastier, the sugar is much richer and satisfying, and it tastes much more heavenly. But Donut Factory is quite good I would say, especially for those who have not tried Krispy Kremes before.

Went to Furama Riverfront Hotel today for a buffet dinner with my Hall friends & Voed.

Peanut with Lotus Root and Pork Ribs Soup!!! One of my fave home-cooked soups!! was so suprised to see it and it actually tastes good! :D

Wild rice with barley and other veg soup. Really good too! both the soups were great.

My first plate :) The cod fish was really nice and sweet, vegetables good, seafood thermidor nice and yummy scallops.

My 3rd plate :) The prawns there were really fresh and tasty by the way. Duck is not bad, and once again vegetables is goooood.

Buffet @ Grand Copthorne Waterfront!

My family and I went to Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel this evening for a buffet dinner.

It was only half price, from $40 to $20 because of a DBS promo. So worth it right!

Quality of food is good, there was a pretty healthy selection of dishes, and the atmosphere was great! They had Oysters, Prawns, Sashimi, Sushi, Local fare, Western food, nice soups, Cheese, Desserts, Fondue, Ice-cream, etc.

There was also the view of the Singapore River from where we sat and there was also the music from the live band coming from the Piano Bar next door.

Beef Wellington! This beef is damn nice & tender! Serious! Plus I seldom praise beef. This one had 3 layers - pastry at the outermost layer, something else in the middle, then the beef.

But basically I have a very tight schedule. After my exams today, I had to pack up my room in hall to prepare for shifting on Sunday. Have to wake up at abt 5am tomorrow morning and I foresee that i'll probably sleep at 3am, which translates to only 2 hrs of sleep. Gotta got to airport early in the morning, send Voed off, change RM, then head to ICA to collect new passport. After that, lunch with shan at Beach road, then meet chern at kranji. After that we will head to JB, then Kukup. But after returning to SG at night, I still gotta continue packing, then shift out on Sunday. Wah piang, xiong right?

But then again, the excitement of eating cheap seafood & harry potter book makes me so happy! song bo! :D

Sarpino's Pizza for Supper last night - Tried the Ranch Style Chicken. It's pretty delicious and the taste is rich, however, I felt that the crust could be more crispy :)
Went to ICA to renew my passport today in preparation for the coming Kukup trip. :D
Had dinner @ Crystal Jade Kitchen, Takashimaya. The salted egg prawns were very good! and of coz I finally ate the Mango Pudding which was on my food list. whee happy! ^^
Ah.... and of coz, it was a pretty fruitful shopping trip today hehe.

Bought more facial stuff anddd... *drum rolls* a good pair of heels!!!!! finally!!! bought a pair of very very comfy & obviously good quality heels. Brand? Scholl! The design was great, it was a nice pair of formal black heels for work, and most importantly it is a good pair of heels. Really, I think itz very difficult to find a good pair of heels unless it is from Nine West or Scholl. It was a pretty good deal at the sales. I got mine @ $60.10 and my mum got a pair of scholl sandals at $45. :D

But I still wanna buy my new Nalgene water bottle & office clothes. Don't think I have the time to before the GSS ends.

I had a great weekend (akhir minggu) but I'm still waiting for the pics. Here's a breakdown:

Friday night (Jumaat malam)
had Indo Project Day where our class & those from the summer exchange program presented short skits, dance, songs and FooD! hehehe..... I was in the Menyanyi (singing) group so we did a few songs in the skit. The memasak (cooking) group made some light dishes like Tahu Isi (Fried Stuffed Tofu), Talam Ebi (Dried Shrimps Snack), Lumpia (Spring Roll), Kue Nangka (Jackfruit Cake), etc. Memasakan favorit saya Tahu Isi dan Talam Ebi (My fave dishes are Tahu Isi and Talam Ebi).

After that, I went for dinner at Clarke Quay, the Tent. It's mongolian BBQ and it's very yummy and interesting! I made my own spicy sauce.

Saturday (Sabtu)
Went for lunch at Sabai, a Thai restaurant at Suntec City. Wow, the food was amazing and it is also suprising. Why, you may ask? It is because they put ingredients in the food that you didn't thought would be nice but the combination came out great. There was a green curry dish where they had lychee and duck inside. The lychee was super sweet & it matches the gravy as well. Duck was lovely too. (Pictures courtesy of VoeD)

Tom Yum Goong. Did you realize that the soup was clear instead of orangy red? but it definitely tastes good.

Sunday night (Minggu malam)
After writing my essay for my indo class, I proceed to meet some of my jc classmates for dinner.
We went to Long Beach UDMC @ East Coast Seafood Centre.

Ordered Sambal Kangkong, Drunken Prawns, some Beancurd and Chilli Crabs!!
I must say that the Chilli Crabs & Mantous were very nice. Not bad! I enjoyed the crabs very well.

But after 2 days of eating crabs in a row, I think my crab craving has started again. Wanna eat more good crabs!! *drools*

Monday night (Senin malam)
We went to Pho Hoa @ Holland Village for dinner. Ate the all-variety beef noodles, with flank, steak, tendons, tripe and beef balls. Not to forget, the delicious fried vietnamese rolls. ;)

All in all, I like this kinda life!!! Good food all day long! Fill me up with good food and crabs!!! :D

Bought a brown belt for my dark blue jeans or black bottoms.

Accessory for dark-coloured clothes. Have been waiting to buy this one since last month and I finally got it today hehe.

It looks like an innocent and solidly-locked box on the outside,

but when you play around with it, you realize that there is more to it. A puzzle box of coz. And when you open it slowly, you discover that it is brilliantly designed. So cool and interesting!
And one of the things I like about the box other than the puzzle and the woodcraft is, how it can deceive you lol.... unlike some puzzles which tells you straight away where it is supposed to be tweaked, you can't tell with this one. All the places are cleverly hidden, making you think that it is inflexible and fixed. So, you gotta do some investigation first and think further. haha...

I just started watching Gilmore Girls from Season 1 again. Can finally catch up on it and watch it full thanks to technology lol. Still remember that my friends and I first started watching it in secondary school and we would pass each other tapes of it too. haha.... now I can watch it w/o getting disappointed when an episode ends.

Voed and I went to Food Republic for dinner today before watching Ocean's 13. :) feels good to be going out and watching movies again after the sem. ^^

I tried out the Fishball Noodles from the Ah Koong Fishball Noodles shop.It was said to be famous in Malaysia and Singapore. Serves Fishballs, Fishcakes and Yong Tau Foo. I must say, the Mee (yellow one) is average, kway teow is nice, but the fishballs and fishcakes are definitely good. Also, the beancurd skin that they put on top is yummy. I was craving for the Yong Tau Foo after seeing the pictures but refrained from buying it as I would be spending an additional $5.20. Die, i feel like eating everything i see nowadays. :P

Voed got the Chong Pang Nasi Lemak. But I think the drumstick is so ex. It costs $2.50. Nevertheless, I liked the cabbage.

Dessert: Brownie with Vanilla Ice-cream from Earle Swensen's. Finally satisfied my craving for brownie with ice cream hehe... yay... and one down from my food list.

Went to dine at Imperial Treasure, Marina Square for lunch with my parents and then to eat the Black Pepper Crabs @ Old Airport Road. hehe. But I would say that I'm not satisfied enough to mark the entry as completed on my food list. Not enough crabs leh really. lol... itz just so good. Must eat more next time.. Like 2 crabs for me alone hehe.

Anyway, managed to buy something today lol. Finally, after half a year. Must understand how I feel, after the whole stint at school. haha. Got this short, cooling purple dress from Zara after deciding to try all the weird clothes that I see. Turns out it's pretty nice. (Recently I find all the clothes at Topshop, Miss Selfridge, Dorothy Perkins, Warehouse, Zara, Mango weird. Like all clothes around are weird. Maybe it's a sign to change my wardrobe lol so I decided to just try everything different.)

Here's how it looks. Not as glam on the bed but look good when you wear it.

By the way, Voed and I have great minds. Both of us bought exactly the same thingss tonight. ;)

Just had my mid-term test on Friday, for the module on Atmospheric Science. It's a combination of geography, meteorology, physics and chemistry. haha.... Got a bit of a shock when i realized that, cause I thought it was just plain chemistry. But I have been adapting to it so it's pretty fine, I hope. Lol....

Went to Food Republic @ Vivocity to try out the Bak Kut Teh again! It's an item on my food list hehe.

We went to dinner at Blooie's on Vesak Day. It's a quiet restaurant pub thing behind NUS actually but has very nice atmosphere and food. The meat served there is really really good and everything else is nice as well, but it is slightly pricey. Nevertheless, it's worth the try :) Saw that they are awarded the Top 100 Signature dishes award and another Excellent Food Award. That explains it :)

Anyway, we ordered the pork chops...

It is the best pork chop I've eaten so far, and not only that, even the vegetables & mashed potatoes are nice. They have also changed their presentation since we last ate there. Looks nice doesn't it?

I re-watched the one sang by Jordin Sparks, recent American Idol winner, and the youngest of the winners at age 17. By the way I just realized she has the same birthday as me haha.

Wow, looking at all the performances and this one especially, she is real good man. Look at how she puts the emotions in her songs. And it's unbelievable that she is only 17. So young! but so good! (not like joakim on sg idol :P)

The Singapore Flyer

Just heard about the Singapore Flyer from CNA's website today. First reaction is WOW!

It is so cool! and you can do so many things in there, book the whole capsule, have a party, dinner, etc. Seriously man, I think SG is out to wow the world and to transform fast. Especially with all the recent developments like the Integrated resorts, the F1 Grand Prix, the NDP @ waterfront, Marina Bay and of course the Singapore Flyer. It's all the big, cool and happening stuff. No wonder foreign bankers and people are getting excited about the buzz going on here. They have a good reason to cause I'm also getting excited haha...

In the future, SG won't be a place where people would just drop by for a few days holiday (as was in the past), cause they would soon have lots to do and lots to see. In fact it's overwhelming lol.

I must say that all these are pretty good strategies and plans by the govt to transform Singapore into a more exciting place. Imagine what people and tourists could do. Go to the casino, enjoy the F1 race, go on board the SG flyer for a nice romantic dinner, etc. Not to mention all these would also attract more foreign investors, make the economy grow further, make the world more aware of SG, etc etc. And of course, the mention of Singapore in Pirates of the Carribean is certainly free advertisement for us hehe. Moreover it's such a popular movie all over the world.

When I was listening to the video online, lots of ideas are already popping up in my head. Another idea added to my list of romantic marriage proposals for guys as started in the past. Think I should really either be a rich guy or a romance consultant for rich guys. Haha... Darn, all the good ideas I have. If I'm a rich guy, all the gals are gonna fly lor, with all my romantic ideas haha.

Anyway, new idea:
I did think about people booking the whole capsule (it's $1000 for it by the way) for a romantic dinner or anniversary, and wedding but i think it is best suited for a marriage proposal. It's too small for a wedding thing, not grand enough I feel. Think this one beats my previous idea of proposal on a yacht. Imagine booking the capsule, set up a nice romantic dinner for two after sunset, enjoy all the nice night scenery after everything is built, sipping champagne, and can even drop the ring inside the glass (as in spiderman 3), and best of all if got special stuff like fireworks. Even better if the question can be viewed from high up or maybe itz flying from some building. Oh and for billionaires maybe they can even employ disney's technology and have the question written in fireworks (i still duno how they do it), after the fireworks display. After which I think the girl can faint. haha...

Ok I'm mad. But ya more cool ideas. :P

Actually I like the Anything & Whatever idea though it seems funny at times. I did talk about it before since people always say anything or whatever when asked about drinks. Well, that's the same reason why they made this series of drinks.

The good thing is, they are not a series of cheap and yucky drinks. It tastes pretty good I would say and if you look at the 6 flavours of Anything (carbonated drinks) and Whatever (non-carbonated drinks), those are really the stuff that people normally drink and stuff that I like! so Yay! Cheers to Anything & Whatever!

02S19 Outing on 19 May

10 of us met up on Saturday for dinner & chat.

We went to Miss Clarity Cafe for dinner then proceeded to Clarke Quay, Brewerkz to chill out.

I like the drinks & the dessert @ Brewerkz as well as the place. It's a soccer pub kinda thing but also serves main courses, desserts as well as alcoholic drink. The inside sitting area is really cool and different, and I like the way they positioned the tv screens.

Ordered Mango Virgin Margarita (Mocktail) and a Chocolate Fudge Cake as well. Both are nice but suprisingly, I liked the Virgin Mary (Mocktail) ordered by Yang Shan as well. hehe... They said I have exotic taste cause everyone else doesn't like it.

It's basically Tomato juice, with Tobasco Sauce inside and a stalk of celery. Maybe I like all of those that's way I like the drink and I find the celery pretty refreshing too. Haha... :P

We bought this jam last night as I wanted something nicer & without impurities (seeds or whatsoever that doesn't give the jam a nice smooth taste).

When I opened the bottle I was shocked to see that it was All Impurities. lol... meaning lots of whole blueberries. And I thought oh dear.... =/

But who knows when we ate it with bread, wowww it was heavenly~~ Yummy, yes though there are whole blueberries but it was soooo goood! Perfect.

I have a question, again. Well I always like to observe, think and ponder. And it's no suprise when I ask weird qns out of curiosity. Moreover I'm a girl and would not have to think much about it.

Anyway I was wondering, How do guys save up so much money for weddings? Cause some time ago my proj mates (guys) were calculating the sum and I think we came up with $70k for a nice wedding dinner at hotel, honeymoon, dowry included etc. And we figured it probably take the average guy several years to save up that much. Well of course unless they get help from parents or the bank la.

No idea.... I really wonder if the guys my age or older (in university) thought about it or have a plan. Need to do some survey.

*squeals* I discovered something outside my door before I slept last night. My very sweet dear neighbour in hall who lived opposite me for 1 year left a gift for me. It was called Ai Lin's Takeaway and it really looks like those takeaway boxes for Chinese food in the U.S. Super cute. Initially I didn't know who left the gift and I was pretty suprised cause there were already so little ppl left in hall. But when I saw the lion, hehe, I knew who it was from.

When you open up the takeaway box, it takes the shape of the chinese food takeaways like i've mentionede and it's so cute it amazes me. And inside the box, I saw a nice cute little card tied up, and below it are 5 roses, everything inside All handmade. It was a super beautiful thing to see and it was sooooooo sweetttt. First reaction when I was all these was, Oh my god. I couldn't believe it. It was so nice and so sweet of her to make that for me, and for the long note inside as well. It touched me and see laa it nearly made me cry if I hadn't controlled myself greatly.

Anyway ya, got to know Erina after 1 sem because of Josh Groban haha... Because before that I was just stuck in my room, busy with my work. It all started with one day when my door was open and I was playing JG's new song..... And then we slowly discovered that we shared the same interests for quite a bit of things and even had some similar stuff.

But, we are gonna leave hall soon and Erina is moving out tomorrow. I am definitely gonna miss my neighbour and all the fun times. :( boo. see, will really miss all these that I got to enjoy in hall.

I have been looking at Volunteer work today. Was checking out SPCA, Acres and WWF.

Some people may ask, why help animals? or help humans too?

For me, I've made this decision whether I should help humans or animals first. And I think my choice is obvious. I chose animals first. and I made this decision since i was a kid. So why animals? I feel that they really need the help. Moreover they can't voice out for themselves and defend themselves. I think that humans can get help from fellow humans more readily and easily than animals from humans, that's why as an animal lover, I chose to devote myself to animals instead :) It's harder for animals to get help from us and there are already lesser people who are devoted to animals. Moreover, animals had played a part in my life and in educating me, so I'm helping them now :)

Actually I'm awaiting the reply from Acres about their volunteer opportunities. I have been waiting to work with animals ever since I was a kid and I felt that the only way I can be truly happy is to be in nature and to live my dream. The difference with acres and WWF is that they are probably more into wildlife than our local shelters. It also gives me an opportunity to do something bigger and fortunately help more. However, after looking at the programme of WWF, it seems too big for a start, plus you need your own cash which is something I don't have. So nevermind, I'm gonna start small for now. hehe, who knows, maybe one day I can proceed up and then help wildlife on a larger scale. Be a conservationist or animal videographer ;) Honestly it would be too ambitious to start at wildlife immediately as I know that I would need the necessary skills and knowledge before I can handle them or survive anything.

Hehe.... we'll see how it goes. Hopefully can volunteer soon, with fellow animal lovers. :)

Today is the first day of school (Special Term).

Someone is away for a holiday and I'm now feeling very Bored. There is virtually only me left on the level in hall now cause everyone is either already at home or out at chalet. While I have a few days on my own, freedom and lazing -round -time, I feel bored at the same time. Roar...... There are things to do but I feel lethargic. While I did go out to find myself something to do, hmmm.. still feels boring. Like the whole atmosphere here is so dead and quiet.

Many outings to come but it is all not within the 4 days.

The good thing is, I got a call from Karen today! while she was on transit to Europe! wah! What a suprise and wow, to Europe somemore.. my dreamland. But that was very nice of her to say hi, it was a sweet thing to do :)

Feel like a bored housewife now. Worse, at least a housewife has a house. I have only a room. Bored RoomGal. :(

We went to watch the Phantom of the Opera last Sunday, 8 Apr '07.

Dinner @ Crystal Jade, before the musical. For my injured gum. lol.....

Sea Bass in Black bean sauce. The first proper food for me, after days of baby food & soup :P

It was real good, soft and tasty. Yummy!! and perfect for me as I needed soft food.

It was my block's Seniors' farewell party today. April 12, 9pm @ MPSH. It's for old people like me, who are able to graduate and leave hall.

Just in time after my 3214 submission & Nano final test. whee~ I'm a freer girl now :)

Program: Supper (competition btw Seniors & Juniors), Performance by the juniors, then Dessert.

Rice & Bruschetta made by the Juniors (Year 1,2s). It was nice ^^

Potatoes & Sushi made by the Seniors. Truthfully, I think they have mastered the art of making Sushi. It is real good & has always been good :)

I came back from comp lab after my project's first system release (a month ago), all moody and shag due to 2 days of not sleeping at all + coding... to find this at my door. :)

I went to Joo Chiat the other day to do some research for a field trip report. And of course, being AL, I first went to Makansutra to get this map. For the whereabouts of famous food in Joo Chiat. muahaha :D So I can eat good food and do research at the same time. hehe :P

So here's what happened after my week-long bday party in Dec till now:

For those who are waiting for my bday pics to be uploaded, I apologize. I have been busy with workshop till sch starts. After which my laptop was being sent for checkup and repair till today. Plus, I was busy with project and school work.

I'm currently in a 6-man team for this 8MC, 1 Semester Information Systems Development project. We are to create an e-Supply Chain Management System to support a regional manufacturer. lol Yup... cool right?? haha :D

Actually if you really know SCM, you would know that this is one hell of a job and it is tough. That was what I got from certain people.

Anyways, although this is gonna be tough n demanding n time-consuming, if successfully, it will become a very highly sought-after system for the real world (as industry players say). We were told that a past team managed to sell their system for Integrated resorts for quite a nice sum of money. Woohoo~~ :P

As of now, the statistics are as follows:

Duration for first meeting: 17hrs
Duration for 2nd meeting: 15hrs

But I'm still enjoying it so far. Great team mates and team dynamics. All the way~! :)

Swiss Exchange student

Just went down to an exchange student's garage sale cum farewell session in hall today. He placed the note below in the lift to inform us of the garage sale. I think it's a cool idea, but not many Singaporeans do it. It's also useful, afterall u're not taking some stuff back so might as well pass it on.

He prepared some swiss food on the table so whoever that went can have a taste of it. Cool! From chocolates to cheese. I had a taste of one of the finest swiss cheese- the Gruyere. Its taste is very strong but I liked it, very nice. It doesn't taste strange & soft like some french cheese, and is not flat, salty & overly strong like the common kraft cheese. It's just nice & to my taste. Gonna purchase some soon. :P

The Swiss Keyboard. Differs from ours in a few ways as you can see. the top left alphabet keys are QWERTZ instead of QWERTY. and also got some weird symbols..

We went to Vivocity today & tried the Godiva's Chocolixir drink & dark chocolate bar =) yummy...

while Godiva is good in its own way... there's also another brand which has very good, fine chocolate. I tried Valrhona Araguani. It's French, and Godiva's Belgian.

Last day of exam!

Today was the last day of my exams. Had 2 papers in a day- one at 1pm, another at 5pm, both had a duration of 2 hours each. Was awake since 9.30am till now. hmmm....... so tired.

Anyway, today was such a happening day.

Stats paper~

First, the stats paper was insanely difficult & weird. And I mean really weird & difficult. it was so off. Everyone thought so and after the exam, comments like not knowing how to do a single question is commonly heard, so is being uncertain of one's own answer. So much so that one of my friends taking the same module thought that the invigilator gave him the wrong paper after looking at the questions, and turned to the cover page to check the module code. lolz... itz so funny... in a good way of course. Anyhow, that was ST2334 for you. It gave everyone the 100% feeling of failure after the paper. It is so different from past year papers & midterms- a different type i would say. oh well, it's already over. no use crying over spilled milk. and everyone spilled milk anyway.... so itz ok. hahaz..

First round of bday discussion~

Food Recommendation: Kway Chap

I just went to Food Republic @ Vivocity for lunch today and had this very yummy kway chap. It's the Garden street Blanco Court Kway Chap. This kway chap doesn't taste like the average one you find at food courts. This one has kway that is thin and soft, and the soup is exquisite. Meaning, it doesn't have that flat, salty, normal black sauce taste that most kway chap soups have. This one seems to have more layers in the taste and you can taste the other ingredients inside (maybe the herbs or something), not the flat unhealthy kway chap soup taste. haha... So yummy!

In addition, the intestines & stuff are fresh. It doesn't have the smelly unfresh taste. (If you eat Kway Chap you should know). All in all, this kway chap is something which you instantly know is good after you've tried it, not the kind where you have to ponder if it belongs to the good category or average category.

By the way, it is also featured on the Lost & found makan places food programme on tv. I realised it was one of the dishes on my food trail. cool. :D

I just found something out yesterday-

That 22nd Dec is Global Orgasm Day for Peace. Hmmm... it falls on the same day as my birthday. Let's see, am I supposed to hold a sex party to save the world? hehe, no la.. just kidding...

This global event is something about having the whole world having synchronised orgasm on the same day, hoping that it would release some positive energy to counter all the violence in the world. The following is from the website:

" The mission of the Global Orgasm is to effect change in the energy field of the Earth through input of the largest possible surge of human energy.

The intent is that the participants concentrate any thoughts during and after orgasm on peace. The combination of high- energy orgasmic energy combined with mindful intention may have a much greater effect than previous mass meditations and prayers.

The goal is to add so much concentrated and high-energy positive input into the energy field of the Earth that it will reduce the current dangerous levels of aggression and violence throughout the world."

Whether it'll work or not, I do not know. But the (scientific) results should be interesting. There's also this Global consciousness project done by people in Princeton.

Initially wanted to post some funny pictures of my revision time but the pics couldn't get uploaded so, next time.

Today, I just discovered this amazing thing. Just started talking to this long-time friend of mine on msn. After counting the years that we've known and been with each other, I got a shock. It was such a long time that I almost forgot how long it has been. Wow... And I used to be a person who doesn't keep in touch much. But I guess when you're older you tend to appreciate such stuff more. Anyhow, we were in the same primary school, secondary, first 3 months jc and stuff. Ever since pri 5- total of 11 years. So much longer than the most of people in my life now. Cool... itz really so long, so so long. amazing... time flies, and we're getting older!!! lol~

And even after so long, she remembers Sydney. *salutes*

New food recommendation: Wagyu Beef

Had dinner at Gyukaku, a Japanese BBQ restaurant at Chijmes, today. Food was good, especially the avocado & tofu salad, Wagyu Beef and Pork Belly(forgot the jap name). The wagyu beef reminds me of the other one I ate at Inagiku @ Raffles the Plaza. I just love wagyu beef! It melts in your mouth and everytime I eat it, I feel like I'm in heaven lol... I have a phobia of bad beef, typically the average kind that we meet at food courts or jack's place. But wagyu beef is great. So if you haven't tried it, do try it some day!

Here's a picture of Boon Tong Kee's chicken rice, the takeaway version.

Hmmm... I feel that the Tiong Bahru chicken rice @ Changi Village is slightly better. The rice is more yellow and tasty (having the chicken taste), the meat & skin tastes better, is not that dry and the best thing is it comes with free flow of soup!! So you can help yourself to unlimited bowls of soup, great for soup lovers. The soup also changes with time, sometimes itz yummy peanut soup, herbal soup or chicken soup. I wanna drooool right now, thinking about it. But to be fair, I was having a dapao-ed version from BTK (with breast meat), so it wasn't steaming hot, thus may not taste as good as it should be.

Anyhow, try the Tiong Bahru Chicken rice @ CV!

I'm done with my work on 28th July, Friday. Actually I had been waiting for that day for a very long time and was pretty excited about moving back to hall. However, at the last hour of my work, I experienced something which I did not quite expect. Suddenly I felt like I didn't want to leave, kinda she bu de to leave some of the people there, feel like a part of me is gonna be missing after I leave. sighhzzz... I think I just got used to it after 2 months. lol... I felt so sad during the last hour that I nearly cried. My eyes were quite watery already. Although sometimes work could be pretty stressful and busy, there were also good in the "troubled waters". I have received help from people to make things work for us. I was happy that I was given the opportunity to sit in meetings, to attend the company dinner, invitation to business events, outings and to train others. All of which would be impossible without my boss. Well, what I can say is, I think he is one of the best bosses ever. Very very nice & helpful, nice, friendly, approachable, almost unbelievable. (My other bosses in hall are nice also, hehe) I guess maybe this is due to the culture in the company. =) I've made some pretty good friends during my course of work there, even with perm staff. Strange, I can relate to and talk to people who are so much older (like late 20s to early 30s) on an equal level, as a friend and feeling comfortable even on personal topics. uh oh, old me....

Anyhow, I have to adjust back to hall life and school life soon, and to really cherish this one year. It is time. So, I must adapt and enjoy something which I had once waited for too, and must make this one year a fruitful one. Maybe one day, I'll meet those at work again.

Some updates about my life since I last had the time to blog. lol... Only have a few hrs on wkdays to myself and 2 short wkends.

=Work=
I'm now definitely more at ease with my work stuff, although I'm officially taking over part of someone's job. Not having people to rely on seem to have a strange effect on me. Seems like I can work better like that. lol... Or maybe it's just that I've been taught most of the stuff. I feel more qualified to handle queries from a freaking huge pool of info (can u imagine someone having to actually study for just a part of a temp job? reading conference notes & booklets), check contracts, be a loanshark. Basically the responsibilities are higher as compared to the usual temp job as I have to take over a guy who is gone. However, the opportunities I get are pretty good. It's not all the time that a temp will get to enjoy company dinners, lunch with bosses and other bosses, meet people, especially when this is my field. Sometimes it's almost like an attachment with a temp's pay. haha.... Also, my boss is very nice. and he has a type of leadership that I've yet to master.

=New House!!=
My parents just bought a new condo recently so.... I shall be having a poolside party for my bday in dec!!! yay... else itz balcony/poolside party. haha depends on the crowd. Basically the plan is, I will be having about a week-long celebration leading up to my bday on the 22nd, allocating 1 full day for each group of friends. That way, quality time can be spent on each group instead of having to touch n go. So friends/classmates, remember to mark on your calendars for that one week & I shall let ppl start picking when the time draws near! :D Meanwhile, we shall leave my current place as it is.

Ok a bit of info on my house is, it's at the extreme end from where I live now. The new one is just opposite Khatib camp, ard Yishun area. For those whose camp was there, you should know where it is. lol.... I think that we were pretty lucky to get this unit as it was one of the better ones, designer deco and all, ground level beside the pool. Picture suntaning on one of the beach chairs & getting a glass of lemonade from my window. lol....

So yup, that's about all. I'm loving life now. It all seems to be going uphill as compared to months and months back. =)

Ah.. haven't been updating lately as I haven't had much free time after work. Gotta sleep early & wake up early... Work starts from 9am-6pm. Some stories of my working life.. Well this is the first time I'm working for a stranger company, and first time in an office environment. Previously either I did not work at all or is busy with hall activities in the holidays :)

My first day @ work was such an adventure. haha.. as a few of you may know.

Blunder #1
As my work place was @ Eunos & I seldom take such short train journeys, something happened... while on my way there, I shut my eyes while listening to the radio, as usual. who knows, I almost missed my stop, so I rushed out w/o much thinking. And guess what? when I was searching for my wallet so I could tap my EZlink card, I found my wallet missing!!! Darn! I knew I dropped it while rushing out of the train. and die! how on earth can I chase after it? itz long gone.. so I went to report it, but the smrt guy said that he'll send a msg down to all of the people & whether my wallet reappears depends solely on the honesty of the public. so okay... and he can let me exit for now. Butttt... w/o my wallet, my ezlink card & all my money.. how am I supposed to take the bus to go to work? and lunch? how abt the trip back? I couldn't believe what had happened... it was the first day of work, and how am i to get there? well I could borrow money from colleagues for lunch but, how awkward! itz just the first day and stuff. Luckily, as I was filling up the form about my wallet, the woman who found it came to the control station!!!! phew!! At that moment I felt so relieved.... and happy. and I thanked her profusely.
Lesson learnt: better becareful & try not to doze off again.

Blunder #2
I took the bus on the wrong side of the road after work. As a result, I landed in Aljunied MRT station instead of Eunos MRT station, and had to take the train back. oh well, haha... Blur queen on monday. maybe becoz I didn't had enough sleep.

Other than those, colleagues were good, they were friendly, majority are middle-aged people, and I like the office environment coz I can wear nice formal clothes everyday. haha.. sounds crazy. My boss is very nice & friendly too. Had lunch with my department & the guys drove all of us out. First day was very slack for me, so much so that I feel so tortured and could not take it any further. I had to wait for a few hours in a meeting room while they settled stuff for me, was so bored that I read all those wordy rules of conduct & the like so many times, and read the company's newsletter too. zzz... After which I was being shown to my desk, but still had to continue entertaining myself with nth but the same "reading material" and blank paper as I waited for them to setup my computer. Without it, there's nothing much I could do. Some of the stuff I started writing on the blank pieces of paper were, modules arrangement, maths problems, binary numbers, names of people in S19 and The Pledge. Yes, I wrote The Pledge because I was so bored. so u can imagine....
But the situation has improved since then, got lots of learn & do and I can get real busy sometimes. Well, having stuff to do is better than having nothing so, I shan't complain too much. :)

The best thing that has happened so far was discovering & meeting up with the rest of my comrades. haha... Fellow uni students, NUS interns and freshies. I was so happy & excited when I heard about the rest of them. Yay! can have lunch together next wk! :)

Of Buffets & Work

While searching for buffet places to go, i came across a nice restaurant. and maybe Nice is an underestimation for it is much better than just Nice. darn it! I WANT TO EAT at EQUINOX RESTAURANT!!! lol.. just thinking of it makes me excited. located at Level 70 of Swissotel the Stamford, the view is gonna so great.

Ah.. and for my buffet treat, I've also decided on Plaza Market Cafe.
It offers the best Peranakan Cuisine & I've heard that it's good. hehe... I'll go check it out & see how it is.

Talking about work, there's this funny thing with me & phone calls from employers. At least 80% of the work-related phone calls that I receive is when I am sleeping. Even before I wake up, I get a call, when I take my lunch, get another call, take a nap, get a call, take 2nd nap after being awaken, get another call. LoL.... This leads to a conclusion: maybe I should sleep more, then I will have more job prospects :D

Seems like the hit rate that I get from sending resumes a few days back was quite high. Have been getting calls from different companies and actually I did not expect to get a job so fast considering I'm Picky Lin. Anyway, I'm now up for an admin job. But seems like it isn't a brainless holiday job after all. Gotta prepare invoices etc, liase with other departments and be under pressure, as what I was told. But, it's good cause I know I will learn a lot. Hopefully, the guy that is leaving will teach me well, then I can do everything. So, I'll be working on Mondays to Fridays, and a few hours on Saturdays, till end of July. :)
