Hmm... Let's see...
After reading someone's blog, it sparked off some thinking on my side, about life, about myself and about people.
Let's see...
How's life being the only child? Many may be curious to know. The common questions I get are "are you lonely when u were young?", "are you spoilt or pampered?", "would u like to have siblings if given the chance?", "so how do u spend ur time?"
In actual fact, I don't feel lonely when I am young. Even though I'm the only kid around in the family, I occupied myself with books, toys, sometimes tv, listening to adults (so much more fun than watching kids play kiddy games), occasional trips to visit my cousins and luckily i have the luxury of having my parents bring me on regular trips to the zoo, other places of interest, science centre, shopping centres and travelling. When other kids were out playing or reading kids story books, I was pouring over various Dog books and encyclopedia (but i still do read some children books & adventure bks). and needless to say, I have my dog for accompany since 10. Sometimes I feel rather proud that I can be self-sufficient w/o the need to have siblings. hehe.
Would I like to have siblings? actually my parents asked me before. My answer then was always nope. Firstly, I think I'm alright by myself. 2ndly, doesn't mean with siblings come good times. I do hear of siblings quarrelling all the time or are on bad terms. 3rdly, I can't imagine a younger sibling messing up all my stuff and crying when I wanna study or want some peace. (This is pretty reasonable, considering that sometimes people have to go out of the house to study becoz itz too noisy) 4thly, if I was to ever have siblings, I would prefer older ones, not younger ones. And guys please, not girls. Ideal is an older brother, assuming that he turns out to be nice & doesn't bully me. No girls cause when there're too many girls, there'll bound to be problems. tsktsk... Can't imagine if i were to face a younger sister who is all so soft and likes pink, speaks in those squeaky voice, cannlt go under the sun/in the water and worse if is afraid of dogs. -end of the world- *faints* So those were the thoughts that I had as a kid.
Personally, I think that 3 kids are the ideal number. 1 kid and u'll run the risk of being over-protective, 2 kids- they may feel the direct competition, 3 kids- just nice. they can have fun together yet have strength in numbers. Competition may not be as direct as when they are only 2 kids.
Next, I certainly don't think that I'm spoilt and I don't just get everything I want so easily. My parents have brought me up the rational way and have prevented me from falling into that trap. I do wait for things that I want, and do research before I proposing it. Sometimes I can wait pretty long for stuff that I need because some concepts need to be put across and I think that's pretty good. My jc classmates will be able to recall that brick of a handphone i was using, and i had to wait so long to be ready for a pet dog.
So people, don't think that all only childs are spoilt and pampered. But of course, when I do get something, it's good stuff. Afterall, I really need it. The only thing that may not be a plus point is, I'm used to having all of my things to myself. There didn't exist a need for me to share it with another kid since I'm the only one here, and there is also no need to accomodate to anyone. Everything is how I liked it to be. This probably led to my high expectations of things and people to be loyal to me. well who would want someone to betray them right?
I'm definitely not an easy-going person = i'm not the chin-chye type. hopefully people around me already know. But is now trying to change to be a more accomodating person so that surrounding people will survive. must relax and close one eye a bit to things afterall someone ever said "Ignorance is bliss. people won't stand to benefit by pursuing every matter."
Another worth-to-note statement heard from a different time is, "people only tell you what they want you to know". I think this makes sense, who would wanna tell someone stuff they don't want them to know? Sometimes stuff will be hidden away.
Next up is about guys.
Yes, I find guys in a guys group more attractive than guys in girls group. why? either because of nature or maybe because I can never understand and accept why those guys can only have girls as their friends. The psychological reason for these people doing as such (as i've read) is that they can't take competition among their same kind, the other males. and this kinda sounds like they're losers or something, not being able to withstand the competition. (not shooting anyone here, this is just how it feels like to me sometimes, and makes me can't accept their behaviour) another reason would be, after observing those in the latter group, i always find that they have some problem. Either they are too desperate, too attention-seeking or too confused. kinda frustrating to watch. and this is seriously not a biased view. of course there is a minority who are clear headed and have clear ideas, but there still exists the other confused group.
-to be continued- tired.
